Today, say Yes!

Luke 1:38 Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.”Mary in Stained Glass - Erspamer

Saying yes can be a very tricky thing.  Many of us say yes too quickly in order to please others, taking on tasks and projects for family, friends and employers.  Especially as the Christmas season approaches, we may be tempted to say yes to too many people, parties and presents.  Sometimes we need to be more selective about what we say yes to.

So we have to clarify our priorities.  Saying yes to 36 batches of cookies?  Not a good idea.  But saying yes when we experience the still small voice of God within us…that is a different story.   Unlike demands of the world, God asks only that we become most fully the person we were created to be.  Saying yes to everything in the world can be a trap.  But saying yes to God opens new worlds and opportunities to us every time.

God of life, you provide all good things,

never abandoning us in times of need.

We praise you for all the blessings you provide.

May we, like Mary, trust in your bountiful love,

and always find the will to say yes as your servants in the world.

Advent Peace,

Mary Kay

  1. So true. Saying yes to everything can be a distraction from actually having time to do the things God is calling us out to do.
